Saturday 21st January saw another running of the Peter Marsh Chase at Haydock Park.
175th Anniversary
The Peter Marsh Group, the Bootle based packaging company is busily preparing for its 175th Anniversary. The Group consists of Peter Marsh & Sons Ltd who make paper sacks and Peter Marsh Packaging who make corrugated boxes.
Wayne Thomas Retires
On Thursday 31st March 2011, Wayne Thomas an employee of 29 years retired shortly after his 67 Birthday. Wayne had been a Director of the Company and played a massive part in the quality, Environmental and health and Safety areas within the Group.

Paper sacks can be used for virtually anything. Not only do we supply the human food and animal food industries but sacks are also good for bird seed, chemicals, glues, soap pellets and even football kits! With the advent of polycoated and greaseproof papers it is now possible to pack a much wider variety of products.
Animal Feed
Historically the animal feed industry was the core of our sack business. Sacks were supplied to the largest feed mills but in the late 1980s this changed due to plastic. Plastic became cheaper, however this trend is now reversing. With the introduction of the Packaging Waste Regulations (it is cheaper and easier to recycle paper than plastic) and with the increase in oil prices, the plastic sack is no longer as attractive. This has meant a return to paper sacks for many feed mills.
Food Industry
Approximately 60 per cent of our sack production is now for human food. We supply sacks to most of the country’s flour miller’s, which often end up at supermarket chains like Tesco and Morrisons.
As a result the company strictly observes the food hygiene regulations and continues to advance in this area with Customer audits as well as its own independent audits
Speciality
At Christmas we print a specially designed sack which is always very popular. We are now in a position to sell these more actively. Furthermore, printed novelty sacks can be used in different ways for a bit of fun. Sacks can be made with birthday, horoscope and party designs both for private and business use. In turn, companies may wish to use them for promotions and marketing.
