Environment
We have a Certified Environmental Management System in place. Over the last five years we have managed to reduce our gas, electricity and water consumption year on year, since we received our ISO 14001 accreditation in 2004. To date, our gas and electricity usage has decreased by 46% and our water by 60% against the levels they were at in 2003.
All of the paper used in our sack production come from sustainable forests and is certified for food use. Whereas our Packaging Division uses mainly recycled materials in its production. All of our products can be recycled.
We have calculated our carbon footprint and have been working together with the utility companies, The Carbon Trust and John Moores University to reduce it still further.
In Europe, the majority of domestic waste is put into paper sacks, this concept is currently being trialled in the UK. We are in a position to work with Local Authorities and composting firms to assist them in meeting their obligations and consequently in helping the environment.
